In Response To: When XG is wrong (Timothy Chow)

Thank you, this is exactly the kind of information and insight I was looking for.

Now, this begs another question. When a Giant plays under 1.5 is it possible that in order to play so well he must make the same mistakes XG is making, or is it possible that he is really playing better than XG and should have even a lower PR because some of the plays he is making differently are better than XG?

Or is it more likely that the differences in those two instances are very small and tend to cancel each other out and it is probably a fairly good PR number anyway?

I guess the only way we will get close to an answer to that question is a few years from now when we have a better program and re-analyze those same matches and see what happens to the evals. That will be very interesting to see in say, 5 years or however long it takes for us to have a much better bot.
