A few thoughts which might guide you...
Which market are you interested in writing for? If you are writing for the serious player, say those with FIBS rating above 1800, you have a small market, and since i am not anywhere near that level, and since there is so much material available which i have yet to study and comprehend, I suspect that many players such as myself are somewhat reluctant to purchase materials which might be well over our heads.
If you are producing materials aimed at the sub 1800 players, you are writing for 90% of the backgammon players, and possibly you can expect more buyers. For example, yesterday i watched a match on FIBS, and a 1750 player accepted a 2 cube trailing 3 away, 2 away, and didn't redouble. Today, i dropped a cube in a match, only to find out later that GNU had my winning chances at .504! For the vast majority of players (potential buyers), we need to gain an understanding of the basics. If you enjoy explaining the core aspects of the game, i think you might be able to find a market there.
Price point, aim for < $25, no need to include extensive numbers of matches, just enough to teach the basics. This might be a very different project from the one you have proposed.
With all respect, Scotty
