Stein's retro-problem

I'm not sure I understand what your stipulations here are, but I see that it is possible to reach this position in 6 legally played rolls (and if either 6 or fewest is what you had in mind, it is a clever retro-problem that appears to have a unique solution). So as to not give it completely away to others but to provide enough info that you can check to see if my sequence matches yours, mine ends with 63.

Basically, though, BG does seem much less suited to retrograde problems than chess.

I think it depends on what the consensus conditions are (or rather become). Certainly it does not seem fair to impose the identical expectations on backgammon problems that people eventually discovered work for chess problems: "Can anyone do this with some retro-backgammon problems? C'mon, I've seen a large number of them done for chess."
