I already read Hominid's answer, and I agree with him in principle that in general, you don't quibble about giving the opponent an extra shot or two when trying to "come home quietly". In this one case, though, I see a couple of reasons to stay back and leave two shots fewer (and yes, I had to count them; I don't carry all these combinations in the "memory bank"!) 1-You don't want your potentially gammon-winning 55 blocked, if he chooses to stay put on your 5 point. 2-Having an extra spare on your 2 point is good if you get hit, then get an unhappy reship that you have to take. You'll want the diverse bearoff position when you come back to it, if all that goes down.

OtB, I would count the shots, then wing it. I wouldn't take anywhere near as much time as I did thinking about this, then typing it. I'm not the world's speediest player, so it's important I not waste time knowingly chasing what are probably micropoints.
