Yours is the one the three plays I took a good look at. It demonstrates one of the several different tactical approaches inherent in our last decision. Your idea is to jump out, and play a hold game from the 16pt.

I decided to stay back, maximizing shot potential. Staying back also reduces the incentive for the Dillies to hit loose at the front of their block. This could be important, since they only have a limited number of ways to make that point naturally.

Having rejected advancing from the rear, my next candidate was the quiet 8/3. The Dillies may have trouble playing safely, I reasoned, so it might not be necessary to force the issue by hitting loose inside.

Then it dawned on me that this may be one of those positions where getting hit with one one checker back can be a plus. Usually, with one checker back, the race is close (or you are ahead), so getting hit is very bad. Here, we trail in a lopsided race. We don't want to get hit, but if it happens, we may be able to make a needed anchor.

For that reason, hitting was my final choice.
