In Response To: Most 'Coveted' Tournament (Christian Munk-Christensen)

We have had no problems or objections in the past, we expect none this year.

Streaming is typically limited to Championship level players -- in the Championship division, the Masters, and the Dual-Duel. The vast majority of players at this level are not intimidated by streaming, enjoy having their recorded matches to study, and wish to see the growth of interest in the game. Streaming provides this.

We are very fortunate to have a tournament sponsor providing a beautiful, expensive, custom board to the Championship winner. The final will be played on the board and streamed for others to enjoy -- for the promotion of the sponsor, of the tournament, and of the game. Such promotion, exposure, and marketing is valued by our sponsor; has been invaluable in the growth, reputation, credibility, and success of our tournament; and is crucial, in our opinion, to the promotion of the game.

Many national federations, tournament directors, players, and others work continuously to promote and grow the game. If the game grows as we hope, sponsors will become more commonplace and the visibility of matches will become more required. We think that is a good thing.

We imagine some less experienced players, in the Limited or Advanced divisions, might be intimidated or uncomfortable being streamed or otherwise recorded. Naturally, the matches the majority of people want to see are between the most skilled and the most recognized players. We will, accordingly, determine the matches that will be streamed.

As an aside, anecdotally: In San Antonio, because of the strength of the field, the events, the reputation, and the considerable amount of visibility via streaming, one prominent player has deemed our tournament the "Launching Pad". We like that. It's good for the game.
