Another fun way to bet at tournaments

1. If there is an advantage in going first or second, that is at least handled by the fact that we flip for who goes first;
2. I don't think there is a huge advantage since the difference between the best player (currently, undoubtedly Mochy), and the next best (Michi, MCG, Neil, Petko, Victor, Akiko...who knows?) is not that great, and even if it is, getting the next two could be an advantage that way.
3. Another way to do this that would be fun is this: I write down my 8 picks, and you write down yours. You automatically get all you have on your list that I don't have on mine and visa versa. Any we both have, we bid for. (I'll give you $5 to have Phil on my team; I'll give you $10 for Phil, etc. etc.) And you do that with all players in common, even if one guy ends up with more players than the other guy....at least he paid for it!
I think this is the best of both worlds, and again, for San Antonio I think if we eliminate the top Giants from the pool we make it a lot more interesting and subjective as to who to pick.
There are just too many variations to consider, and they're all fun. Another one that strikes me as fun is this: the pool will consist of all players except the top 12 Giants. However if you do pick any of the top 6 Giants for your team, the other player gets to pick three non 32 Giants for his team. And if you pick someone from 6-12, the other guy can pick 3 non-32 Giants for his team.
I am open to doing any or all of these variations in San Antonio for $100 with anyone willing to sit down with me to do this. Now having said this, think about all the variations and fun if we do this three-way!
