At DMP I'd play 5/1(2), not just to save a 6 but because I think it's better to close the board now and worry about picking up an extra checker later. Here, though, we also have to worry about running off the gammon. My plan is to run the back checker next time because the chances of hitting a shot later and winning from there look very slim, whereas the gammon race is close. In preparation for running off the gammon I want to bear in the checker on the 8pt. 8/4 5/1.
