In theory it is definitely the right strategy, but in practice you often end up trading two lousy possessions for one good one. One commentor made the point the other day that players are much more accustomed to the scenario in the NBA, because you play 82 regular season games that have 4 quarters, meaning it comes up a ton. In college it is a rarer situation.
