In most early-game scenarios where an opponent has escaped one of his back checkers, some sort of split-and-down play would be right. Since coming under the gun (S = 24/20 13/11) seems a bit big, reverse split (Z = 24/22 13/9) is the play that does that here.

Another approach is to play two down from the midpoint (D = 13/11 13/9). This play goes all out to add a point at the rear of your block. If you get hit, you will usually have a double or triple shot to hit back.

Slotting the bar point ($ = 13/7) is too big. Slotting is great when it works, but when you are hit, the opponent will have a chance to escape with tempo. That would launch him into a running game, one of the few game plans where he is not behind.
