6/4 3/1 keeps a 4-point board which has value since White is supposed to break his prime to hit twice with numbers like 65,64,54. Blue's 4-point board gives him an occasional lucky win when he hits back and White dances a while. Breaking your board down to just 3 points and blots on 2 of the other 3 points makes this extremely unlikely. Also, keeping a 4-point board might scare a human opponent from hitting twice with 65,64, or 54.
