I don't think my synopsis implied that it gets MUCH more complicated for White after the hit. Clearly, if he gets closed out, things should simplify! But, apart from the fact that the closeout is not likely, could not return hits lead to a series of possible recube situations for him? Also, the quiet play means it is very unlikely Blue will pick up the second chequer, which would have often led to complications for White.

The bigger clock consideration is surely for a slow playing Blue employing the hit.
