New Rule - Dice Flat on Checkers

Consultations were conducted with representatives of other federations. Other rule sets were studied and utilized, as applicable. Was everyone in the world consulted? I think not. But, certainly, some discussions occurred and all rule sets were evaluated.

Not that it matters; however, to my informed knowledge, other federations have not consulted the USA regarding the development of their rule sets. Everyone should extend those courtesies.

Currently, there is no international association of federations -- as I think there should be. The USBGF is charged with the game in the United States, the UKBGF in the UK, the EUBGF in Europe, etc.

Tournament directors were represented in the debates and discussions of the new USBGF rules. No, every director was not consulted.

As you might imagine, everyone cannot be included in every discussion. Pure democracies do not exist because of their unwieldy natures. Nothing would ever be accomplished and it would take forever to accomplish the nothing. An elected representative body of thirteen dedicated individuals worked long and hard, argued and debated at length, and reached a compromise consensus for all. We only ask that others accept the efforts and give the rules a try. To my knowledge, those that have fairly done so have realized no problems.

Unfortunately, I appreciate that much of the resistance to the new rules is not necessarily associated with the rules, but is based on perceptions that the opinions of all were not heard. I can assure everyone, in my opinion, every possible perspective was presented and debated on every topic.

So, while I can understand that some may feel their opinions were not heard, they were. I suspect some would be even more upset were their opinions heard and not accepted. Such is the political process and the nature of compromise. I didn't agree with every aspect of the new rules nor with the way they were presented. But I realize and accept that others have varying views from mine and that consensus is only reached through compromise. Others should realize and accept the same.
