In Response To: Paul Magriel (Fender)

I knew Paul for nearly forty years and we had some great times together. When he lived in London for six months in the 1980s Barry 'Bigplay' McAdam and myself had a series of lessons with him and our games improved in leaps and bounds. He was more than generous with his time and analysing with him was as fascinating as it was instructive. Despite his colourful and complex personal life his enthusiasm for the game never waned.

Two years ago we started to collaborate on "Backgammon 2", a more advanced book than the original and featuring some concepts that Paul was very excited about. Sadly the project ground to a halt because of various issues in Paul's personal life. I still have the notes and lot of positions that he sent me - I will now dig them out and see what I can do with them.

RIP Paul, friend and mentor.
