I also did not like to refer to making the 2 as burying checkers. It does not bury any checkers! The checkers on the 2 are in play and block the last checker (and any future checkers send back that land on the 24). The main drawbacks of making the 2 are that these two checkers are not available to make better points (5, 4, 7 and 3) and that making the 2 detracts a bit from the value of the 8 - as these two points cannot be part of the same six prime. In return for that, you get safety and a home board point.
