I guess for 3 checkers a 6/5/4pt distribution might waste less. It will more often bear off 1 so we end up in a sort of low wastage 2-checkers position. Not bearing off at least 1 checker is bad because the ckeckers will be pushed deeper and next roll will probably leave 1 or 2 checkers on low points for high wastage.

For 2 checker's I'd guess a 5/3pt or 5/2pt then. 5/2pt maybe better as it gives a nice amount of rolls to bear off two while keeping the checkers reasonably high.

For one checker let's go with the principle to max the number of rolls to exactly bear off at 0pt. A checker on the 7pt.
