the mid point has real value here. perhaps not in this position, but from the ones that are likely to ensue (ie outfield coverage or builders for containment). leaving the 9th checker inside your opponents homeboard is never a pretty thing. the hit would be more attractive if it accomplished something --- here it merely threatens to make the barpoint. getting that checker hit is not worth the risk of slotting the bar.
