While hitting may gain a tempo, it's not like there is a pressing need to gain that tempo. White is not threatening to do anything special.

I don't buy this. White is threatening to clean up his other blot.

In the game, I hit, and White rolled 1-5. He came in and couldn't clean up his other blot. I rolled 5-2, hitting the second blot. By the way, GNU 2-ply would use the 5-2 to make the defensive bar point, eschewing the hit. However, GNU changes its mind upon rollout and starts seeing the value of hitting the second blot. This is one reason I don't trust the rollout.
