In Response To: Only two legal plays (Timothy Chow)

I understand this position better now. Although hitting both checkers isn't completely unrealistic—after all, that's what actually happened in the game, and I would have had a direct shot at the second blot after any 5 except 5-2—it requires quite a bit of luck and the risk is not negligible. If I get hit back then I could easily end up dancing while White clears all the difficult points safely, since I'm leaving two blots in the outfield instead of just one. On the other hand, since I still have decent timing and structure, there is a reasonable chance that I'll get a better opportunity later. I still think the decision is closer than GNU makes it out to be, but at least I see the arguments on both sides more clearly now.

But given that I hit, and White then rolled 5-1, my feeling is that hitting the second blot was right.
