US Backgammon Federation Update

The US Backgammon Federation or USBGF, is a non-profit that was organized this year, with the primary goal of promoting backgammon in the US. There are a number of ways we will (and have already begun, in some instances) seek to do so.

Over the next week or so, the board of directors will hold its first full board meeting via conference call. During that meeting we will lay out initial broad goals (and some specific ones) for the organization, establish committees and handle other basic housekeeping. Within a month, we should have a website up at www.usbgf.org/com.

The inaugural board of directors and the initial board of governors for the US Backgammon Federation have been established. The members are:

Board of Directors: Harvey Gillis, Jeb Horton, Joseph Russell, Karen Davis, Lynn Erlich, Neil Kazaross, Patrick Gibson, Perry Gartner, Richard Munitz, Stick Rice, Rod Covlin

Board of Governors: Alan Grunwald, Carter Mattig, Chuck Bower, Chiva Tafazzoli, Dana Nazarian, Hugh Sconyers, Jake Jacobs, Jason Lee, Jeremy Bagai, John O'Hagan, Kathleen Davis, Kit Woolsey, Mike Corbett, Phil Simborg, Rob Maier

In the interest of moving ahead rapidly, this board was largely appointed by consensus, though some latter members were voted in. In the future we intend for the USBGF to be a member-based organization where board members will be voted upon as the current board members' terms expire. There was no intent to slight anyone. Though we have an extremely capable and dedicated board and spent considerable time and energy trying to obtain the best board composition possible, undoubtedly we unintentionally overlooked individuals who would make valuable contributions.

First and foremost, if there is anyone who wants to contribute in any way, please let me know, either by posting here or by emailing me. Second, while the Board of Directors is limited to 11 members, the Board of Governors has not been capped at this time and is open, pursuant to a board vote, to other contributing individuals. We are hoping to garner the broadest support and participation possible.

I look forward to our all working together to successfully raise the profile of backgammon!
