The thinking seems to be that Player 2 will be leaving the blot on the three point. That is not always going to be the case. He will frequently be running the blot in the next turn or two. When that happens, building naturally will be preferred over burning checkers. The better board will be an advantage in resolving the mid-point vs bar-point contact.

Notice too where Player 2's sixes are going next turn. They will make the two point after slotting. Fours usually transpose at worst. Fives may get punished, but only when the blot is still on the three. When it is, most of them will hit loose with a four point board following the slotting play [52, 53, 55 & 65] which is not all bad.

The blot on the three is both obstacle and target. Build your board and either attack it or scare it away.
