However, the downside of the previous random seed system is that if you run a rollout on a couple moves and later on want to run a rollout on a third move, the seed will be different.
The new system insure that for your own use, you will run consistent rollout (seed-wise).
I'm glad to see you implement this change, as I was the one who suggested it to you. ;)
But just to be clear, when you said "This seed will stay the same from one time to another" it sounded like every rollout (for every position) will always start with the same seed -- which of course means the seed is not random. That's what I was questioning. From your second statement (above), I take it that's not what you meant.
So, just to clarify, if you rollout plays for a given position and later would like to rollout an additional play for the same position, the new rollout will use the same initial seed as the earlier rollouts. (This is the behavior I suggested.) But if you now move on to a different position and start a rollout a new random seed will be selected (as it should be). Is this correct?
Additionally, I'll restate my suggestion that when a random rollout is performed, the seed used should be displayed as part of the rollout result. This is helpful for coordinating rollouts with others and if there is a need for duplicating results (as there was in a recent thread for an opening 21$-54.
Thanks for the clarification.
