Exposing to a ton of shots in the opening?

I'll echo what others have said: While it's risky to come out under fire, it's even more risky to sit back and wait for him to bury you alive. (Timothy's boiling pot analogy is an excellent one.) Black's got a ton of point-making rolls, and each point he makes will make it more risky for you to vie for an advanced anchor. If you try now, you might get away with it. Or you might get some nice return shots. Or you might get pointed on, but he'll be expending two builders on his bar point that would have gone to making an inner point,
Matt asked you to consider your game plan. More important, I think, is to understand Black's game plan. Once you do, you'll see the need to be proactive. All the reasons for splitting with 24/23 in the opening apply here -- making an anchor so you don't get primed or blitzed -- only now the urgency is a lot higher.
One subtle point that doesn't get mentioned... Even when you're hit, 24/18 isn't really any different than splitting with 24/23. Instead of being split on the 24 and 23 points, you're now split on the 25 and 24 points, so you have the same anchor-making potential.
