Systematic study works best for me if I aim a little beyond my current competence rather than shooting for the moon. Don't move on to something new until you can articulate what you have learned.

I liked these observations if David's a lot. Keep reviewing and refining what you know, set clear goals for yourself, get immediate feedback. Challenge yourself constantly, but always with challenges that you know are within your capacity to meet. Find that sweet spot where you can use what you've learned to continue to expand the horizons of your knowledge and incorporate new skills with the old, without the task becoming too bewildering, too fatiguing, and too much not fun.
