Too much reduction?

Another possibility is to structure the payouts in a VR tournament differently. Pay every position. For example, suppose 51 players each pay $100 to enter a tournament. At the end of the tournament you rank the players based on their VR result. First place pays $200, second place pays $196, third place $192, ... last place pays $0. Each player's goal is to get as high a ranking as he can, and you try to improve your ranking from one tournament to the next.
