Yes. Well deserved congratulations to Neil, Alfred, Victor, Carter, and others for great years on the ABT.
Not coincidentally, I think players such as our top three this year in the ABT, have mastered the desired combination of great play and steady, unemotional determination. They play well and they do not allow the inevitable vagaries of the game to disturb, distract, or deter them. They grind it out, confident and determined to squeeze every bit of equity provided them by the dice and the circumstances. More often than not they are successful, but they lose with grace knowing they gave it their best with what they had to work with and knowing they didn't waste equity in emotion, distraction, or lack of focus.
We should all take note.
It is interesting to note differences in the fields and in the play between Masters and ABT events. Inexplicably to me, I traditionally have done much better in Masters events than in Championship ABT events. I assume the same, and the converse, are true of some others as well. The very best players perform well in both. I, too, think some recognition should be given to the Masters events -- the fields, though smaller, are often stronger and deeper than the Championship fields in the same tournaments.
