as a mac user and fibs player, i can say i have not had any issues with lag even at peak capacity times. having said that, i think your friend is out of luck with live play. i've heard you can use a windows emulator to run shg and xg on a mac, but it sounds like that may be too technology advanced for what he is looking for.

there is supposed to be a mac client for gridgammon users, maybe someone here could post the link for that.
