More backgammon players - rules or more people?

I doubt that it's the rules that have caused a large number of people to continue playing, insofar as protecting weaker players is concerned.

It's more likely that it's a large population center.

In NYC, in the warm weather, there are scores of regular players, perhaps over 100 / day.
