In Response To: Understanding Backgammon Position #22 (Igor)

I think most of us would agree that the bar/22 24/23 is a top contender given limited white firepower in the zone. This is the natural play Kit recommends while also making another excellent observation, which some of us would miss, that white is most likely going to unstack her midpoint on the next roll while leaving a blot in the process and with our back checkers spread out over three different points we have a much better chance of hitting a shot in the outfield.

So, let's make white's position a bit stronger -- we'll move two checkers from the midpoint to the 11 pt. What would your play be now? Would you still spread them all out or play something safer? I think there is something we can learn from these positions, so I encourage everybody to give it a thought. It seems to be a fairly common position that is not that unlikely to arise in practical play.
