Yes, I agree that there should be an important distinction between a centred cube and turned cube at 4a 2a, since the gammon values are significantly different. When we play 4a 2a, in the early phase of the game we are basically aiming for a turned cube and play aggressively for the gammon (which is the scenario I think Rick fundamentally had in mind), but in later phases this can be upset when the game might change to a race before the cube is turned. I'm not sure how to reconcile these two situations into 1 general algorithm. Very interesting.
