GG/GS versus GG+/GS+

In Response To: Gammon Go (GG) and Gammon Save (GS) Considerations (Rick Janowski)

Theoretically, it seems sound to express Rick's conclusions in terms of GG+ and GS+ rather than GG and GS, because, as he says in a followup post "GG+ and GS+ are better representatives of the extremes of pre-Crawford scores."

At a practical level, I can imagine two different things happening as one moves from GG/GS to GG+/GS+.

First, the best checker play could actually change. Does this actually happen, say with replies to opening moves? How frequently?

Second, the spreads between the best move and other choices will be different at GG/GS versus GG+/GS+. For a quick example consider the 4-1 opening at GG and GG+:

Is this increased spread between the plays what makes it a more useful basis for considering the "aggression index?"
