The big cube strategy change will be at 2a 2a. Dropping leaves you at 49% so drop if a dog. If you get the advantage early you will probably be too good to double. If opponents are not good they have probably not thought this through meaning can cube when gammons are diminished and maybe get a horrific take.
I don't see why playing like gammon go and cubing early would be better normally and against bad players you would prefer not to have the match be just one game.
