XGRoller The XG Roller levels setting relies on truncated rollouts to estimate the position. This has been proven to be an extremely efficient way to analyze a position. For instance a level like XGRoller+ is much stronger but faster than a 5-ply analysis.
Here are the settings used for the different levels of XGRoller
XGRoller 42 Games using VR with rotation on 21 dice Truncated after 5 moves using 1-ply All decisions in 1-ply
XGRoller+ 360 games with VR Truncated after 7 moves using 2-ply Stop when reaching 0.010 Confidence (minimum 180 games) First 2 decision in 2-ply Then 1-ply checker and 2-ply cube
XGRoller++ Checker 360 games with VR Truncated after 5 moves using 3-ply First 2 decisions in 3-ply Then 2-ply checker and 3-ply cube
XGRoller++ Cube 360 games with VR Truncated after 7 moves using 3-ply Stop when reaching 0.010 Confidence (minimum 180 games) First 2 decisions in 3-ply Then 2-ply checker and 3-ply cube
Yes it plays backgames very well but no doubt can be improved.
I've seen instances of the odd / even effect but it's nothing like gnuBG suffered from and it's effect is only small.
I think one of the main areas of improvement for the next version is containment play
