All excellent advice which can help me get to the next level. Thank you!
On the subject of TV...hopefully this will help other intermediates... Watch matches online instead of watching TV. It's entertaining with lots of drama and suspense. ACTIVELY watching matches among the top players on FIBS and GridGammon has helped me tremendously. Try to anticipate the checker play and especially cube play. Keep a MET open on your desktop, and for each score, mentally recall the MWC for each player, and then check against the actual MET. In a few months you will have developed many mental tricks to allow you to estimate much of the MET within a percentage point or two. It's possible to learn a lot by watching. Musicians learn by listening! It applies to backgammon as well, especially at the beginner, and intermediate levels.
Watching the top players, in addition to playing, and other forms of practice and study can have real benefits.
