I give this group about a month before it slowly dissolves to nothing.

I think this kind of negativism is counterproductive to backgammon. You've got somebody taking the initiative to create a study group, I think this can only be a good thing. If you don't want to participate, that's fine, but please don't try to drag it down. If you don't think it's the right kind of study group, make your own!
