Weekly tournament fee: how much?

I am getting the feeling that a $10 entry fee for the weekly tournaments is a still a reasonable amount.

I agree.

In the San Francisco Bay Area, the biggest tournaments are the ones run by Backgammon by the Bay. In addition to those, I know of two small groups in which beginners and intermediates stage round-robin and single elimination tournaments. The entry fee in those is around $10. I think there is another group of mostly beginners that holds tournaments with no fee at all.

Presumably, one is spending $10 or so at the venue. Another $10 (most of which is returned in prizes) is modest.
