One thing I know for sure is that even OK-ish players misplay 4a-2a score a lot...

I'm surprised it's taken so long for someone to bring this up. Phil used the score as an argument against passing, but if you feel your opp will screw up 4a-2a then I think the argument goes the other way. So it helps to know your opponent's tendencies (obviously) as opposed to simply his/her PR.
