In Response To: Sports Illustrated Report of the First International BG Tournament in May 1964 (Rick Janowski)

Just my feeble attempt at tongue-in-cheek humor, Rick. For me, there is something comforting and amusing about an article from 1964 that portrays the game similarly to how many regard it today: mysterious, obscure, played only by a select few jet-setting eccentrics, etc. Even back then, it seemed from the article like backgammon was relatively stagnant, if not on its way out. And yet somehow it has survived these past 50 years, just as it has survived in one form or another for the past 5000 years. That kind of deep-rooted staying power is pretty impressive, and it suggests to me that the game will still be around after Sports Illustrated has published its final issue. Who knows? Maybe it will even outlast World of Warcraft.

Anyway, that was my general point, and you're right: I coulda shoulda said it better in the first place.
