For logic, you are approaching it the right way - my technique tends to be more of an "and" count. So, internally, I like to say, "how do I win this from here?". When you start listing the sequences that have to happen, and you mentally ascertain that they are not likely outcomes to begin with, then you can quickly get a sense of what is likely to happen.

So, here, I am counting my "ands". Opp not roll a 5 for many consecutive turns (low..), AND me not crack (so-so), AND opp has all that timing with that spare on the 13pt, AND I continue to not crack, AND opp has to roll a set to speed things along. Too many ANDs for me. I can handle some 3-and situations, but a 4 or 5 is most often too many. Finally, whats the score? AND (in favor of dropping), its 0-0 to 13. Just all roads lead to Rome here.
