In that case, I don't think there's any reason to be suspicious about the additivity assumption. Far more important are considerations about how you and your opponents are going to deviate from equilibrium in the rest of the game.
For example, I would say that in practice, slightly premature cubing against weak opponents is not expensive at all, but profitable, because your weak opponent (1) may drop and (2) may fail to recube at the right moment. Now, if you're assuming that your opponent's cube play is flawless and are just thinking about your opponent's checker play, then what you have to be careful about is that both your ND equilibrium equity and your D/T equilibrium equity are different from the actual equity. Just because your opponent is going to deviate from equilibrium in subsequent play doesn't automatically imply that your D/T actual equity will exceed your ND actual equity. That's what you have to concern yourself with, not additivity per se.
