I would think about this OTB but would play 16* because the benefits of the play are much easier to sum up then the strengths of 7*: gains more in the race, escapes a checker, sends another one back, dupes 4s... I'd talk myself into 16*.

7* has the advantage that is tries to build a 4-prime, and that it offers more counter play when White does his thing by hitting back.
