Many thanks Bob. I would not be able to make the calculations based on 2, 3, 4 and 5 roll probabilities, multiplying out and summing - not over the board. I had figured that the fatter tails of the number of rolls distribution caused the apparent paradox - lower EPC, lower winning chances. But difficult to see this OTB.
