Thanks Ray Kershaw and my apologies for making you repost images from 2013! I actually didn't notice this was a 4 year old topic LOL.
If I may add my 2 cents for your book, imo if you include the issue of cube efficiency in your explanation you are going to confuse your readers.I think it would be better to present examples where the cube efficiency by itself is the deciding factor.Here it plays a role but is not the decisive factor. Btw low cube efficiency by itself is not a bad thing, in fact it enables you to Double at lower GWC %.
The deciding factor in all 3 positions imo, is the recube potential/recube possibility/recube vig of the receiver of the cube.The higher the better. Notice in all 3 positions the Recube to 4, is either marginally correct or marginally wrong.
E.g Taking position 1, blue kills 4% of his winning chances so that if O Cubes to 4 he may recube to 8 50% of the times. With the other play he would only recube to 8 38% of the times. I checked it on GNU and in both cases blue's cube efficiency on redoubling to 8 is basically the same, about 0.85.
