Watching BG tournaments online

Thanks, I do my best to only post meaningful content here and a occasional joke. :)
In the early days of pool streaming and even worse on TV in the 70's,80's and even early 90's the color would be off and the balls so blurry it was hard to see what was what. Which is as bad as not seeing a die and only figuring it out after the move.
To help solve this problem they introduced "TV Balls" where the 4 and 7 balls were different colors from the traditional colors and the relative striped balls 12 & 15. That didn't help much.
Then came the "blue TV cloth" which gives me a headache, didn't help.
The real solution was better cameras with hi-def capability. Now the color of the balls and cloth are fine with what ever version they use and everything is visible.
All this makes for better viewing for people who watch pool. Audiences didn't grow as a result of improved production quality. They grew as more people came online over the past 10 years. However that was a very small number of people for a baseline audience size. It was very disappointing. Sure the audience is 3X to 4X larger than the early days. But the absolute number is still very small.
If someone asked me 20 years ago if professional pool was available to watch how big would the audience be? I'd have guessed 10K to 20K people at any given time. Boy was I wrong.
In 07 when pool streaming started 500 people was a good size audience with top players playing important match's. That's 10 people per State. How is that even possible I wondered?? Now 2000 is a massive audience, 40 people per State save any international viewers. That kinda clears up why there's no pool on ESPN any longer. And pool has a much larger community than BG over all. Lots of people watch pool who don't play(rail birds). Very few people watch BG that don't play. Think about that.
The exact same problems in BG are in pool. How to grow the game and endless rule arguments. And I see no headway in either community. So I just play the rules that are agreed upon on any given day and enjoy the streaming. Getting all worked up about growth, universal rules, or governing bodies is a epic waste of time and a misjudgment by those who think thats making a difference. Playing the game and going to tourneys is a MUCH more effective use of time.
kindest regards,
Eric Petersen (the original "Fatboy") I'll explain the name someday. I take no offence to it.
