While I get what you're saying it isn't true for most people.

I'm also less likely to attend if the field is really strong. I agree that there may be some Advanced and Novice players who get a kick out of seeing the top players. There are probably even some Open players who do. I like seeing the top players, too, but knowing they will be there does NOT increase the chance that I'll go. Net/net, I doubt it has much impact either way on overall attendance.
