Controversy in the Chou

So by creating this gray area, we are not only blurring the rules of the game and the rules of conduct, but we are creating situations where there can be hard feelings.
I don't think you can prevent hard feelings in this way. Maybe you can minimize their occurrence,... But like making rules to punish cheaters, you often end up hurting the 'innocent' (more specifically the unintentioned error-maker for whom many prefer a different word) and the cheater finds another way to cheat. Such will be the case if rules are written to prevent hard feelings, IMO.
If I am playing baseball...
Big difference. There you have a paid (well usually s/he is paid :) official to watch all situations. As mentioned many times here, BG is more like golf where there is no official and the players themselves must adjudicate.
I was hoping to have a thread full of comments that agreed with (my) thinking...
Surely you jest! With this crowd? :)
By the way, if any of you play me in a tournament and I make a mistake in your favor, not only will I expect to be held accountable for it, I will refuse any offer you might make to allow me to correct it. And please don't take offense if I hold you to the same standard.
Fair enough, but if you make an illegal move that I see, you will HAVE to correct it because I always enforce "legal moves" on my opponents (unless either I don't see it or it's irrelevent). Reciprocation is neither a requirement nor an expectation.
But what I have learned from this thread is that there are people who I really respect, like Neil and Chuck, who do not think the way I think about this issue.
Glad to have your respect. Since you joined here and I've read your ideas, I've grown respect for you which is not diminished when you disagree with me (and I'm pretty sure that feeling is mutual). People don't always agree -- one of the GOOD things about life.
