Reviewing the posts I do not think any were intended to undermine your ideas, criticise or get in your way. I took the posts to be making the following (hopefully constructive) points:

1) spending large amounts of money subsidising boards for students may not be the best use of your hard earned cash - good boards did not make any difference to those of us who were students when we learnt the game. You are therefore better to provide cheaper boards to the students at cost; and

2) the main driver in getting students into playing backgammon in the long term is love of the game. You may therefore be better spending you time and hard earned cash on this part of your idea - teaching plans, university clubs etc rather than on the boards.

Again, these suggestions are no intended to undermine - I wrote my comments above because I was a student when learnt, I thought you may be heading down the wrong path and I did not wish to see you waste time & finite resources unnecessarily.

If you want further constructive suggestion - have you talked to lots of students about what would make them interested in the game? If so, what was their response? Was quality of boards a factor?
