I'm disappointed that you feel the way you do and that you reacted in the manner you have.
Phil, you do a tremendous amount of good for backgammon and, obviously, donate a tremendous amount of time, effort, and money to the game. I recognize that, I commend you for it.
However, I think it counterproductive in your efforts to belittle not only the opinions and comments of others but also the individuals themselves.
In my opinion, in most every facet of life, individuals are more fulfilled reaping the fruit of their own efforts and initiatives. One has better appreciation for and love of that which one has achieved and/or accomplished on his/her own.
Is it nice and, doubtlessly, requisite for a new college club such as the new UCLA club to have some modicum of equipment on which attendees may play? Yes. Is it nice and requisite to supply each member his/her own board? No. Those that as a result of these club and school initiatives learn to enjoy and love the game will make a way to play.
I think with today's technologies many more students will play on notebooks, laptops, tablets, and smart phones than will drag a board around.
Only my opinions. No offense intended.
