Boards and Money needed for Students

"I gave 3 backgammon boards away Monday night to 2nd and 3rd grade kids at a Children’s Night I helped run here in Chicago. These were $15 boards I bought at Toy’s R Us. You should have seen how excited there were to have their own backgammon boards! Up until then, they only got to play once a week at their club meeting on the boards provided by the organizer. Now they will be playing at home with their parents. My only regret was that I didn’t have 12 more boards for the rest of the kids. (I am going to get boards for the rest of those kids, by the way.)"
What a wonderful idea and deed!
This only serves to support my statement that if our youth are exposed and interested in playing the game, the price/quality of the equipment is not what's important to them. None of these "kids today" kids turned to you and said "you don't really expect me to be playing on this piece of crap". No. They were appreciative and thrilled with what they had.
This is exactly the kind of initiative I support and fully encourage others to support. Had you come to this forum saying "we need your help to provide inexpensive starter sets to 8 year olds that we are introducing to backgammon", I can assure you that the idea would have received my full support and I'd have offered to donate. In fact if you can assure me that this is how my donation will be used, or even to assist a limited means older student to obtain a basic board, you can count me in for $100 the next time I see you.
P.S. Sorry if my previous response was not supportive of your other initiative. But this is a community forum, not a classified ad board. If you post here, you must be prepared for discussion and debate, and it will not always be exactly what you want to hear. Healthy, open discussion ultimately generates the best ideas and the greatest chance for success.
