In Response To: Kangaroo count (Tom Keith)

Great summary and diagrams, Tom!

To elaborate a little, Maik: In Tom's example, you count the White checkers as follows.

1. 7 x 2 = 14.
2. Add 5 = 19. Double = 38.
3. Add 7 = 45.
4. Mult 3 = 135, add 30 = 165.

The fine tuning is that you mentally shift the checkers to the middle of their half-quadrants (the second or fifth point in each quadrant).

Here, White's midpoint and 6pt stacks both move a pip to the right, canceling, so the only count-change is nudging the 24pt anchor to the 23pt, a 2-pip change. That makes the exact count 167.

First you double the far side men
Add big diagonal, double again.
Add small diags, times 3, plus 30,
And the final shifting is perty.

Nack
